Product Review: Nail Polish - Sally Hansen's Salon Manicure: "Barricuda"

I am a nail polish addict. I go through nail polish like some drug addicts go through crack. (Sadly, I'm not even joking!). Along the way, I've found quite a few brands and shades that I tend to favor. My favorites include: Essie, OPI, Butter, Revlon, and Zoya, and some Wet n' Wild shades.

About a year ago, I tried out one of the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure polishes at the urging of a friend who insisted the shade was "The perfect Tiffany's blue!". So, I bought it and tried it out. Although I liked the color, I was not impressed with the performance. That polish sat unused for quite a while, until I decided to pick it back up again today and give it another try.

Now, I am certain: I HATE IT!

It is quite possibly one of the worst nail polishes that I have ever used...EVER! (This, coming from the girl who enjoyed painted fingernails in Kindergarden!). It is horrendous! It is a terrible polish to try and work with to achieve a uniform look on each nail. (I know the picture below isn't the best, but after a gazillion attempts to make this polish "work", I just called it a day!The accent nail color is: "Revlon- Blue Mosaic"- I LOVE that polish, but it looks horrid in the picture below because I tried to work with it on top of the "Barracuda"- yeah, not so much!) Check out my nails: you can clearly see bubbles all over the place! (I always roll my polish gently before I use it to prevent bubbles; I never shake it.)

Why I dislike this polish:

-It streaks
-It bubbles
-It smudges
-It does not apply evenly
-It takes numerous coatss to get one opaque coat
-It wears/chips easily
(Do I REALLY need to continue?)

The ONLY positive: it is a pretty blue shade.

I'm not sure what happened when they designed this polish, but something went horrifically wrong! Now that being said, I actually like the Sally Hansen Salon Effects line. I have numerous other shades that are absolutely stunning, apply well, and wear well. (As a matter of fact, the last "Nail of the Day" that I posted, I was wearing one of them!). I have NEVER had an issue with any other shade from that specific line, only the "Barracuda" one. I'm not sure if I just got a "dud" or what. Either way, I thought it was worth mentioning in my review today. There are countless other polishes on the market in "Tiffany blue" shades that look gorgeous AND preform well. So, given that, I would recommend skipping "Barracuda" and instead going  with a different brand when it comes to this shade of blue! (My guess is that maybe the very first "Salon Effects" to hit the market weren't the best; I have four other shades from that line that I absolutely LOVE and they preform well. (I purchased those recently, so maybe the newer ones are better in their formulation? I don't know!)

This cracked me up!

Water Safety

I was going to post about something more exciting for today's blog, but in my opinion, this is just too important a topic to overlook.

 Water Safety

In my area, there have been two toddler drownings within days of one another, both involving pools. Little Ava Grace Hart on Sunday, and little Laylah Lykens today (Tuesday). Please keep these families in your prayers! Here are links to their stories:

Please people: if you have children, or if you watch children: teach them how to swim! My mom enrolled me in baby swim classes when I was tiny, and I swam all throughout my childhood and high school. Little ones can learn how to swim and flip onto their backs at incredibly young ages! Please enroll your child into swim lessons; it could save their life! On the note of water safety, Adult CPR classes are a great idea to learn what you should do if you ever encounter a situation where someone is drowning and needs your help!

It should go without saying: NEVER LET CHILDREN AROUND WATER UNSUPERVISED! I get it, accidents happen. Little ones sneak off, and they are mischievous; that does not mean that you can not try your best to stay one step ahead of them and take precautions to prevent it! Go out of your way to protect your child and the children you are around. If you have a pool, this means installing a safety gate around it, and go one step further by putting a padlock on it so that your little one doesn't figure out how to unlock it! When you bathe your little one, don't leave them unattended to answer a phone call, check on dinner, etc.

(Just a little disclaimer, this blog post is not intended to criticize or condemn the precious families who have experienced so much heartbreak this week. They are in my prayers! This post is intended only to inform and hopefully make my readers think about water safety a little more so that maybe, another accident will be prevented.)

~Edit: Since I posted this video, both little angels have passed away. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families~

Bark Box Reviews: April, May, June!!!

It's BarkBox Time!!!

BarkBox is one of my favorite monthly subscription services! BarkBox is unlike other subscription services, because it's for your dog! My dogs absolutely love BarkBox, and I love the quality of the products that are included in the boxes each month. I also appreciate that most of the treats/chews in the boxes we received have all been made in the USA and have not been from companies associated with any sort of recall. As a responsible pet owner, safety is my foremost priority when it comes to my dogs!

If you want to order, use coupon code, "LYGRE005" to receive $5 off of your first purchase!

If you're interested in purchasing a BarkBox for your pup, you can go to www.barkbox.com. They also have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/getbarkbox
They have three different sized boxes so that you can choose according to your dogs size/needs. (The first month I signed up for the one for Medium sized dogs, but since I was sharing it among my dogs, the products weren't large enough. After that, I change it to the "Large" size and it has been very easy to share products/treats among my pups!) My ONLY suggestion to BarkBox would be to offer a box for multi-dog households. Right now they don't, so my pups share one. My suggestion would be to order the "Large" size if you have multiple dogs, so that you can share products between them.

Prices vary according to the plan you choose: 1mo: $25, 3mo: $63, 6mo. $102 (Shipping is included with all of these. (You are not charged more if you have a larger dog; all boxes are charged the same.) If you have a friend or family member that loves their dog and are looking for a great gift idea, BarkBox would be a great, unique gift idea! :)

"A Little Bit of Heaven"

I mentioned in my last post that I was going to go to RedBox and get a movie. I came back with two: "A Little Bit of Heaven", and "The Knight Templar". Both were incredibly, but also sad. (If you're wondering, none of the RedBox promo codes I tried worked!)

Out of the two, "A Little Bit of Heaven" was my favorite! It was so well done. I really adore Kate Hudson as an actress; I think she did a great job in this movie. Without giving away too many spoilers though, I will say that I cried most of the movie. So if you rent it, have Kleenex nearby!

My birthday is next month, and I haven't been so thrilled with the prospect of turning 27. (Gosh, that sounds old!). But, even though it's just a movie, it did have a positive impact on me and helped put things into perspective for me a bit. Even though everything in my life right now isn't exactly what I had hoped for, I am LUCKY to be turning another year older. So lucky and thankful! Too many people are denied that privilege. So, I am going to try my best to celebrate it and be happy when that day rolls around. I really love the quote below: it puts things into perspective and makes you think! Find something to be grateful for today: you can start with being thankful that you're still alive and have been given another day to smile!

Ten Things Tuesday

I can't sleep, so time for a 10 Things post!

1. It's 4:45 in the morning, and I am considering a trip to RedBox with my dogs to get a movie, in my pajamas. Winning!

2. The other day I was craving watermelon so fiercely that I got one, chopped it up, and then realized: my techniques for picking the "best" watermelon leave something to be desired. One bite and I was ready to toss the entire thing! I apparently picked a bad one :(

3. My aunt is awesome; she rode all  the way with me to the flippin Walmart off of Winchester just so I could get the shelves I needed on Sunday. (The item that none of the other stores carried, would transfer, or allow me to order online (I HATE Wal-Mart, but I needed those exact shelves!)

4. I'm currently reading Justin Halpern's new book, "I Suck At Girl's"...I'm half way finished and thinking this book is even more hysterical than his first one, "Sh*t My Dad Says". Both are hysterical! If you want a good laugh, you should go check those out!

5. I've been organizing everything in my house lately. EVERYTHING! Nothing is safe from my slightly OCD ways! But, I guess that's a good thing lol!

6. Current favorite candles: Candle's By Victoria's "Snuggle Up" (smells JUST like "The Comforter" bubble bar from LUSH) and Slatkin & Co.'s "Pink Tulip". Both are incredible!

7. Sometimes, I think I'm the only person in the world that drinks "high pulp" orange juice and loves it. I just don't understand how people dislike it; it's incredible! My favorite is the "Simply Orange: high pulp" and I serve it over ice cubes. MMMM!

8. Yesterday while watching the news, I really thought Obama and Putin (Russia) were going to strangle each other; you could cut that tension with a knife! For those of you who don't keep up with current events (You Should!) Russia is sending aid to Syria...Syria oppresses their own people. Russia thinks the Syrian people should decide their own future, and plan to send aid if it's requested, regardless of if the aid they send harms the civilians in Syria. The US does not want to support the oppression of the Syrian people, and has asked Russia not to aid Syria. (That's the VERY condensed story! It's been all over the news, online, and in papers if you guys want to check it out.)

9. I'm trying to decide which RedBox movie I want to rent! Hopefully the new promo codes I found online will work! If they do, I will post them so you guys can get a freebie too!

10. On Wednesday, my incredible cousin is finally moving back home to Memphis, after years of living in California! My whole family is so excited!! (He is my dad's first cousin, and like a second father to me. I talk to him almost daily.) I am so excited that he's moving back home! I'm planning to make a "Welcome Home" poster tomorrow!

Product FAIL! Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment: Do NOT Buy This!

Every once in a while I will come across a product that is just so gut wrenchingly horrid that feel an explicit need to warn you lovelies NOT to purchase it...EVER!

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment is one of the worst items that I have EVER used on my hair. EVER! Seriously, do not buy it!

A bit of information about my hair type: I have wavy hair, very wavy hair. My hair is also prone to frizz and tangling. I get it highlighted on occasion, so it is also very dry. So, I have dry, wavy, frizzy hair that is prone to tangling and dullness. To sum it up: a regular conditioner does nothing for my hair; most of them are just too watery to really leave my hair moisturized. I use a deep conditioner in place of a regular one so that my hair stays soft and manageable. (I also have psoriasis on my scalp which typically NEVER acts up or bothers me; I use a prescription shampoo once a week and have a foam to use as needed. I have never had an issue with a product burning my scalp until now!) I've recently been trying out several different hair masks/treatments to find the one that works best for my hair/scalp. In the midst of playing hair guinea-pig, I stumbled upon one of the worst items ever sold:

Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment

Upon following the specific directions listed on the container, my hair wound up a tangled, dry, matted heap, and my scalp became a fit of burning, hellacious fury! It was unlike anything I had ever felt! Since I wanted to be 100% sure it was this product causing the issues and not just a freak of nature, I gave it another try a week later, and once again followed the directions exactly as they were written. It was not a fluke: it was indeed this product making my hair/scalp a nightmare! It is so terrible that I wouldn't even consider giving the rest away to a friend/family member because I can't think of a single hair type that WANTS frizzy, dry, tangled, dull hair, or an inflamed scalp that feels like acid was poured on it! Not only did it take me ages to de-mat my hair after using this product, I also had to then re-wash and rinse my scalp thoroughly so it would quit burning.OUCH! That no doubt damaged my hair even further. Let's not forget that it dried the daylights out of my already dry and frizz-prone hair, making it even more frizzy and dull. What a nightmare of a product! I wound up having to use several different products just to get my hair back to normal again. I plan to write the company and let them know what happened to me. Hopefully, they will discontinue this line so nobody else experiences what I went through.

This was not the first product from Organix that I have used. I have used the Coconut Milk line (shampoo, conditioner, anti-breakage serum~which works very well), the Pomegranate Green Tee line (shampoo/conditioner), and also the Vanilla Silk line (shampoo/conditioner). None of those products ever irritated my scalp/hair. This is the only product I've ever used from this company that has given me such horrific results! The only reason I tried this product in the first place is because I had previously used things from the Organix brand and had good results. Never again will I use their Moroccan Argan Oil line!

If you're wondering, I've used Moroccan Argan Oil before and have NEVER had an issue. I've used the ONE Argan Oil (I use that daily), Moroccanoil, and I also have the Moroccanoil Frizz Control which has NEVER given me any issues. So, this is not "argan oil" related allergy; this is simply a reaction to a sub-standard product that should not be allowed on the market or in homes! I don't know the chemistry behind all the ingredients in the little blue tub, but it can't be anything good! (One thing I did notice is that the second product listed on the ingredient list is Behentrimonium Chloride (quaternary ammonium salt: Extremely drying to ALL hair types! Yikes!)

Dear lovelies, save yourselves a headache and stay far, far away from this product!
Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment

The product claims are nowhere near an accurate reflection of the havoc it reaped upon my hair! What it claims to do and what actually happens when it is applied are two entirely different things! Stay far away! ~What it claims to do: "This rare formula has a centuries-old history of providing natural vitamin E and antioxidants while renewing your hair's cell structure, sealing in shine and creating lush softness. It's the perfect indulgence for soft, seductive silky perfection. * Penetrates and moisturizes * Renews and creates softness and strength * Protects hair from harmful styling heat and UV damages resulting in smooth, sexy tresses * Not tested on animals"

~Instructions on use from their website. The first time I used it, I tried #1. The second time I used it, I tried #3. Both gave me the same, horrible results!:
"You can use the Moroccan argan oil intensive moisture treatment several ways depending on your hair needs.  Here are a few suggestions.
"#1.  Deep Conditioning Treatment - Apply the Organix renewing Moroccan argan oil intensive moisture treatment evenly over DRY hair with a wide-toothed comb. The trade-secret on this product is that you can leave it on for up to an hour and use it as a deep conditioning mask. Once you’ve got the mask on, put a shower cap on, and then wrap a hot, wet towel around the shower cap. The heat will help the mask penetrate the hair even deeper, ensuring maximum conditioning.

#2.  Condition Shampoo Condition Method - Apply the the Organix renewing Moroccan argan oil intensive moisture treatment evenly over DRY hair with a wide-toothed comb. Let sit for 3 to 5 minutes than shampoo, condition, and style.

#3.  Use as a Conditioner - Apply the Organix renewing Moroccan argan oil intensive moisture treatment to wet hair after shampooing.
Allow to sit for 3 to 5 minutes then rinse and style."

Vodka...

So, how's everyone's day going? So far, my day has involved lots of alcohol (vodka to be more specific), a flying bottle, broken glass, and vodka all over my house!

Sound like an exciting party?

Nope. I'm not THAT exciting...

A bottle of Firefly Vodka decided to quite literally FLY out of my freezer and shatter everywhere when I opened the door to take ingredients out for dinner. EVERYWHERE! :(

My dogs thought that was an open invitation to become lushes, so I had put them into their crates to make sure they abstained from boozing it up today! Looks like the only one getting inebriated is my flooring!

RIP Firefly!

Tobie has been found safe!!!

A picture is worth a thousand words! What a miracle this is!!!

(I own no rights to this picture!)

Elicia was reunited with her Border Collie, Tobie this morning! Miracles do still happen! Please continue to pray for Elicia and her surviving dogs. They cost from this accident is going to be very expensive. She will have medical bills as well as her dogs. There were also expenses incurred with the search for her dogs, and the wreck as well. If you would like to show your support for Elicia, you can leave a comment for her on this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/344888635582961/ ! The Fundrazr website is back up and running now, if you want to show financial support for Elicia and her precious dogs! Please remember to keep them in your prayers as they recover, and also grieve the loss of two of her beloved dogs, Nika and Tsunami.

Please pray for Elicia and her dogs: Horrible Accident!

Please, say a prayer for Elicia Calhoun and her dogs tonight. Elicia was returning home yesterday morning from an Agility competition in Texas, when exhaustion set in and she feel asleep. Her car was in a  wreck with an 18-wheeler that flipped her SUV over several times, and immediately ejected all of her dogs from her vehicle. She had six of her beloved dogs with her at the time; two are dead (her thirteen-week old puppy died on impact, and her beloved Australian Shepherd was found dead after a car hit it. Three other dogs are injured and receiving veterinary care, and her Border Collie, Tobie, is still missing. Elicia checked herself out of  the hospital early with a punctured lung to go out and look for her lost pup. Please pray for her health, the recovering dogs, the ones she lost, and that they find Tobie safe and sound!

News Story

If you or someone you know lives near Wilcox, AZ...please keep an eye out for Tobie!

Please, please pray for them. I know her heart is aching tonight. My dogs train in agility just like hers. They are not just working dogs; they are there for my every up and down. They are there to kiss my tears away. There to make me smile and laugh. They are the most beloved, gentle creatures I've ever been blessed to be around: They are my family! I know Elicia feels the same way about her beloved dogs; those are her babies! Please pray for her as she grieves the loss of two of her dogs, aids in the recovery of her surviving dogs, and searches for Tobie. I can not fathom how devastated she is tonight. I travel with my dogs several times a week; you just never expect something like this to happen. The facebook page I linked above has been staying updated with the latest news. If they do not find Tobie tonight, they will be sending helicopters out in the morning to look for her. Please pray Tobie is found safely!

If you have a pet that you take in your vehicle with you, please make sure you go out of your way to ensure it's safely contained in your vehicle. You are your pets advocate; they can not buckle themselves in and ensure that you are a safe driver. It is your responsibility to look out for them! This also includes mircrochipping them, and making sure they are wearing updated ID tags at all times, should they ever escape. My dogs all have safety harnesses that buckle into the seat belts in my car.(If you're local, you can purchase those at Hollywood Feed). I never start my car before buckling them in! (My car is too tiny for a crate, so my dogs wear safety harnesses. If you have a van/SUV, an aluminum crate or an airplane approved, thick plastic crate wouldbe the most safe option you can put your dog in while traveling; please add an ID card to the top of each crate and tape it so that all of yours and your pets information is there should you ever get into a wreck. Metal crates can fall apart, and even impale a dog with the right force during a crash. If you must use one, please strap it down securely and make sure it is as far back from the rear window as possible. I would even put a crate cover over it to protect from flying glass/debris. I purchased mine at Wal-Mart; they are used in my kennel room for my dogs when I crate them at home, but they would be perfect for transport. They have three sides that are canvas and the front has a roll down clear plastic sheet; that'd be perfect for car transport if you have to use a metal crate. I will be doing an entire post on traveling with your pets/safety soon!)
